We hope you’ve all had a good Christmas break, took some time off on Wellington Anniversary Day, and are ready for the year ahead.

Back to School (and work) - optimal vision

The school year is about to start so it’s a great time to get your children’s eyes checked and update their glasses. 80% of learning is done visually, so help your kids to start the year with optimal vision.

We all assume our kids can see clearly and comfortably - but they don't know any differently if they haven't had their eyes checked. While there is a simple vision screening done for our 4-5 year olds and 11 year olds at school, this only checks the distance vision, not the closer vision needed for reading and screens.  Our optometrists will check your child's vision, focussing, binocular vision (eye teaming), eye tracking and other related vision functions - what we all need for clear comfortable vision.

It has been estimated that more than 80% of the information that children receive about the world, is from their eyes - vision.  So if their vision is not clear and comfortable, your child is at a disadvantage. 

If there is any doubt about your child's reading progress at school, or concentration, a thorough vision assessment is important.  At Eyes on Petone, we take the time to make a child’’s eye examination fun and easy for both your child and you.

Not every child needs glasses, but for those who do, it can be life changing - making reading and screen time at school easier, less tiring and with better concentration it means a better outcome from time spent at school.

We have updated Back to School package deals, featuring both Whiz Kids and Nano frames. Prices start at $150 for Whiz Kids frames and standard lenses, or $250 for Nano frames and standard lenses (plus examination fees). The Nano frames are super-tough - we can’t claim they are “indestructible”, but they’re built to take a lot of rough-and-tumble activity by active kids.

Outside of the package deals, we also have kids’ frames from: Nike, Dirty Dog, Flexon, O’Neill, Adidas, and the Disney Princess range.

It’s also the start of the working year for adults, so think about whether it’s time for an eye check and to update your prescription, switch to contacts, or update your look with some of our great stylish frames.

Petone Rotary Fair - 17 February

Our favourite event of the year is the Petone Rotary Fair, coming up on 17 February.

Eyes on Petone will have a stall outside, where you can guess the number of lolly eyeballs* in a jar to go in the draw for a free eye test, pick up some cool cleaning cloths and accessories, or have a chat with our team about your eyes. We’ll even clean your glasses for free with our ultrasonic grease-and-dirt-zapper.

Safety glasses - healthy eyes

Eyes on Petone has teamed up with Bolle to offer a new range of safety glasses. These go from the sturdy industrial look to some stylish corporate frames that still offer great protection.

20-25% of all work injuries relate to eyes and 90% of eye injuries can be prevented. If you work in a field that requires safety glasses, or even do a lot of DIY, visit us to check out the range. 

New frames - great style

Over the last year, we’ve been updating our range of frames with great style. 

In addition to the old favourites like Stepper, Bill Bass, Oliver London, Nike, Dutz, Flexon, Vanni, CAT, Flexon, Boheme, and Fila, we’ve added new styles from Woodys, Radley and C Zone.
