Fila at Eyes on Petone

What do Italian underwear from 1911, Swedish tennis #1 Björn Borg and Aussie #1 Ash Barty, LL Cool J and Tupac, vegan sneakers, and a Petone optometrist have in common?

Fila - a brand synonymous with sports and leisure.

Eyes on Petone is thrilled to add a new brand of spectacle frames to our stock: Fila Eyewear.

Fila prescription eyewear offers simple yet colourful designs, combining classic styles with bold and eye-catching colour schemes. Fila frames continue to bring passion and vibrancy to the world of eyewear.

With stylish embellishments contrasting dark frames, Fila glasses combine colour with sophistication.

Fila was created in Biella, Italy, nestled between Milan and Turin. In 1911, brothers Ettore and Giansevero Fila saw an opportunity to supply the people of the Italian Alps with clothing (primarily underwear). In the 1970s, Fila branched out into sportswear and its trendy designs took the world by storm, with an endorsement deal with tennis player Björn Borg. Recently retired women’s world no.1 Ash Barty and men’s top 10 Diego Schwartzman are just two of the many athletes choosing Fila as their go-to sports brand.

Fila may be known for sportswear but that hasn’t stopped it from breaking into the world of streetwear and everyday fashion. Fila started making sports shoes designed for a range of activities such as basketball and mountaineering, but soon these shoes could be seen everywhere. Fila eventually branched out even further, creating lines of shorts, sweatshirts and even a range of vegan sneakers.

In the 1980s and 1990s, Fila also became popular among Hip-Hop and R&B artists. In the 80s, tracksuits were first worn as a casual outfit, appearing in music videos of various artists, including LL Cool J, Run DMC and Tupac Shakur.

Like Fila sportswear, Fila eyewear includes pops of colour and distinctive details in a variety of classic and contemporary styles.
